Overview
Hands Up is a single-player, 3D interactive drama that uses the form of a video game to explore racial injustice and police violence. The player acts as a police officer and goes through stories of wrongful judgment, with the chance to remedy the injustices in them.
The project is Dr. Derek Curry’s. I worked on it as a research assistant, using Unreal Engine as a game designer, level and environment designer, and character designer, on the visuals the player sees while playing. The research, its framing and its narrative are not mine to claim, and this page does not describe findings.
The stills are environment work from the project: city streets at night, built to be the setting for these encounters.
